About Dr. Elliot Gruen

Dr. Elliott Gruen has been a psychiatrist for more than 20 years. He prepared for his career at Colby College, the New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, Pace University, and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He completed several psychiatric rotations while an intern, and worked at community clinics while moonlighting at three state hospitals several nights a week. Eventually, Dr. Elliott Gruen settled in Maine, spending some time as a psychiatric aide for Maine Medical Center in Portland. During his year there, he provided behavioral training to preschool children and participated in group and one-to-one therapy sessions.

Currently, Dr. Elliott Gruen works as a general psychiatrist at an off-campus St. Mary’s Hospital clinic. Although entirely in the outpatient department at present, he previously spent time working at the hospital’s inpatient adult, substance abuse, and adolescent units. He also does consulting for other doctors and hospitals, and works in private practice part-time as a general adult psychiatrist. Dr. Gruen shares an office in Portland with a fellow psychiatrist and 10 therapists.
